Two-Player Backgammon on One Device

White to play

Play Backgammon on One Device

Set a phone, tablet, or computer between you and start right away. There is no room to create and no connection to wait for. Roll first, then move. If you are keeping score, agree on takebacks before the first roll and swap colours in the next game.

Before You Start

Place the device where both players can reach it easily. White starts by rolling the dice and playing both numbers.

Two rules matter right away: a lone checker can be hit to the bar, and you may bear off only after every checker is in your home board.

Decide on takebacks before the first roll. For a fair mini-match, play two games and let each player have one turn as White.

Pass the Turn

The status bar shows whose turn it is. After the roll, use both numbers on your checkers, then pass the device across. Tapping the wrong checker does not commit the move; just choose another until both numbers are played.

Legal Does Not Mean Best

Most beginner disputes come down to three questions: can this blot be hit, must a checker on the bar come in first, and is bearing off allowed yet? The board blocks illegal moves for you. A destination can be legal and still be the wrong plan.

Swap Colours After Each Game

Because White always moves first, the fairest short set gives each person one game with White. The move list records every roll and move, so you can replay the blot that got hit or the turn when the bear-off race turned.
